Mark Higgins Topples the Lap Record at the Isle of Man

Back in May here on our blog we showed off an exciting video of Subaru Rally Team driver David Higgins dominating The Oregon Trail Rally event.  Well, it seems skill behind the wheel runs in the family, because David's brother Mark just broke the lap record around the TT Mountain Course at the Isle of Man.

Mark, one year David's senior, is also a professional driver for Subaru, and already held the previous record at the 37.75-mile TT Mountain Course.

Today the weather finally cooperated on the small Isle of Man, and Mark Higgins took to the road in his 2015 Subaru WRX STI to break his own record that he set back in 2011.

We will have to wait for official video to be released regarding this exciting record breaking run, but for now we couldn’t resist talking about it and showing off a short clip taken by a lucky spectator.  Check this out below:

As you can see, Mark blasted his way around the course, averaging a speed of 116.40 mph en route to a lap time of 19 minutes 26 seconds.  This is now the official record for a four-wheel vehicle at the Isle of Man, and only John McGuiness and his two-wheeled Honda CBR1000PR stand in the way with a time of 17 minutes and 11.6 seconds.

The WRX STI that Higgins steered into the record books was mostly stock, with the only additions being safety and performance features to ensure the Subaru was able to handle the tough course and high speeds.  This just goes to show how amazing the current 2015 model is, a model that we offer right here in El Cajon, California.

If you want to check out this exciting new Subaru speedster then stop by our showroom today, but please do not try and replicate the Higgins brothers on your test drive, as hard as that may be!
