The Outback has a choice of two engines. 2.5i models are equipped with a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine that develops 175 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 3.6R models are powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six engine that generates 256 hp and 247 lb.-ft. Both engines are connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), and all-wheel-drive is standard. The maximum towing capacity is 2,700 pounds.

The 2019 Subaru Outback seats five and is offered in six trim levels, listed as 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 2.5i Touring, 3.6R Limited and 3.6R Touring.

Outback 2.5i

The base 2.5i trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, hill hold assist, hill descent control, a rearview camera and roof rails. Standard tech features include the Starlink 6.5-inch touchscreen interface, a four-speaker stereo system with a CD player and USB, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth. The 2.5i is also equipped with EyeSight, which features adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning and front collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

Outback 2.5i Premium

The 2.5i Premium adds heated front seats, fog lights, a windshield wiper de-icer, heated exterior mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a leather-wrapped dash panel, foldable body-color side mirrors, an 8-inch touchscreen, two extra speakers for the audio system, satellite radio and three more USB ports. An optional Power Moonroof package adds a moonroof and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Other options include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a power liftgate.

Outback 2.5i Limited

The Outback 2.5i Limited adds more luxury with leather upholstery, heated rear seatbacks and cushions, a power rear gate, a four-way power front passenger seat, rear air conditioner vents, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless access, push-button start, turn-signal side mirrors, fog lights and a Harman Kardon audio system with 12-speakers. LED headlights are available.

Outback 2.5i Touring

The Outback 2.5i Touring starts with the standard and available features of the Premium and Limited trims and adds exclusive 18-inch wheels, premium leather upholstery, low-profile roof rails, dark exterior trim, a heated steering wheel and wood grain interior trim.

Outback 3.6R Limited and 3.6R Touring

The 3.6R Limited and 3.6R Touring trims get the same features as the 2.5i Limited and 2.5i Touring models, respectively. These trims are equipped with the 3.6-liter flat-six powerplant instead of the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.

Whichever trim level you prefer, you'll get the same protection in the event of a crash. The NHTSA awarded the 2019 Subaru Outback its highest score of five stars in overall crash testing.
